Lacing up for the Purple Colour Run

Purple Fun Run

The Cornwall region’s most colourful run is set to return.

The second annual 5K Purple Colour Run will be taking place on Sunday, June 23rd from 8:30 am to 11:30 am in beautiful Lamoureux Park (starting near the Bandshell).

It’s a chance to get outside with friends and family, enjoy some great weather and hang out by the water.

Participants will get to run on the beautiful Waterfront Trail and there will be plenty of laughs along the way as volunteers douse runners with purple chalk at various points throughout the race course.

“It’s a beautiful venue for a race and the Waterfront Trail is ideal for a run like this,” said Angie Vinet, Primary Executive of Sexual Assault Support Services (SASS) for Women of SDG&A.

The race is open to all, including children. In fact, there’s a kids mini-run for $10 at 10 am. That will be followed by the 5K race at 10:30 am.

“This is our second event. Last year, we saw approximately 120 participants and there is no cap to how many people can attend,” said Ms. Vinet.

Adult registration is $25 prior to the event or $30 on race day and race kits will be handed out on the day of the event. The event is rain or shine unless there is a major downfall.

The 5K Purple Colour Run is a fundraiser for SASS, a non-profit organization committed to the support of victims and survivors who have experienced sexual violence and the prevention and elimination of that violence.

“I want the community to come out and enjoy themselves in a fun safe way. But it’s also important that survivors know they have a whole community behind them, supporting them,” Vinet said. “It’s a perfect event for the whole family and it will be a great morning in support of a good cause.”
