A Journey Along the St. Lawrence with Don Smith

Cornwall, ON – The SDG Historical Society’s Speakers Series is concluding its season with a deep dive into the waterway that has defined our region for centuries. Originally scheduled for March, this highly anticipated presentation by Cornwall Community Museum curator and local historian, Don Smith, will now take place on Tuesday, April 21.

The St. Lawrence River has shaped the history of Cornwall and Canada alike. During the presentation, Smith will guide the audience on a journey along our section of the river, providing glimpses of the people, businesses, and geographic features that created the Cornwall we know today.

What You’ll Learn

Take in the presentation and learn more about this waterway that has played a dominant role in our lives, including:

  • Early Foundations: From early Indigenous settlers and the voyageurs to the Loyalist arrival.
  • Industrial Growth: The building of the Cornwall Canal and the development of major industries.
