Big Ben Ski Centre ready to carve out another season of fun
November 29, 2023Big Ben Ski Centre is gearing up to get residents and visitors excited about the winter season.
Some exciting changes are coming to the hill this year as the centre hopes to build upon last year’s success.
Snowmaking is underway as the hill looks to create that much needed base for a long season. As Mother Nature lowers the temperatures below freezing, staff have begun working around the clock in preparation for opening day.
“We are hoping things will be ready to go around mid-December,” said Brett Lauzon, operations manager at Big Ben. “We’ve done a lot of offseason work to widen and clean up some areas of the hill to allow for better snow cover and safety,” he added.
Along with the added space on the hill itself, Lauzon, with help from Demo Plus, has added some additional space for parking to help accommodate the hill’s growth.
The hill’s mainstay perks such as the terrain park, snack bar, firepit and 2.7 km groomed walking/snowshoeing trail to the summit only help to enhance the Big Ben experience.
Local recognition of the hill’s value has been strong with the outpouring of sponsorships from local businesses.
“The amount of community support we have received so far has been nothing short of incredible,“ said Lauzon.
Exciting new additions to the hill’s constant evolution will include lighting upgrades for night hours, a music system and terrain park upgrades. A new point of sale system for payment will also be available for this upcoming season to allow for cash or debit/credit payment options.
Hours of operation have increased to allow for more slope time and there will also be a half price ladies night every Thursday.
