Big lineup of talent on tap for 5th annual Cornwall Comedy FestivalApril 18, 2018
For Shawn Fowler, the Cornwall Comedy Festival represents countless hours of hard work, sweat, late nights and tears. And laughs, of course.
Celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2018, the festival has grown from humble beginnings to a can’t-miss event featuring top-name comics on stage in multiple venues in Cornwall and SDG.
“It’s definitely gained traction, people expect it now,” said Mr. Fowler, adding visitors are also taking note. “Last year, we had some (attendees) drive in from the West Island.”
This year’s festival runs from Friday, May 4th to Sunday, May 6th with shows at four different venues – Cornwall’s Aultsville Theatre, the Atlantic Hotel in Alexandria, The South Glengarry in Lancaster and the Martintown Community Centre.
The lineup includes Sirium XM top comic Derek Seguin, award-winning television writer Rob Ross, 12-time Canadian Comedy Award nominee Kate Davis, Just for Laughs veteran David Acer, 3-time Canadian Comedy Award nominee David Pryde and Sirius XM host Ben Miner.
“Each one of them could hold their own headlining a show,” Mr. Fowler said of the festival roster.
The festival was born out of a desire by Mr. Fowler to build a unique event in the community.
“It’s a whole new world,” he said of live comedy. “It’s a totally different experience when you’re laughing out loud with 600 other people in a theatre.”
The fun kicks off on Friday, May 4th, at 8:30 pm, with a gala show at Aultsville Theatre, featuring all six comics on stage.
“It’s too good of an opportunity to pass up,” Mr. Fowler said.
Tickets are available at the Civic Complex Box Office at 613-938-9400.
That will be followed by shows on Saturday at the Atlantic Hotel (8 pm, 613-525-2084 for tickets) and The South Glengarry (10 pm, 613-347-2929 for tickets) and the event finale on Sunday at the Martintown Community Centre (4 pm, 613-528-4705 for tickets).
