City of Cornwall Announces 6th Annual Eco Day at the Benson Centre

Cornwall, ON – The City of Cornwall is pleased to announce the return of its 6th Annual Eco Day, a family‑friendly celebration of environmental stewardship, sustainability, and community action. The event will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Benson Centre.
Eco Day brings together residents, organizations, and local partners to share knowledge, tools, and inspiration for living more sustainably. Each year, the event highlights community‑driven environmental initiatives and offers hands‑on opportunities for residents to engage with nature and climate‑positive practices.
Event Highlights
Attendees can look forward to a wide range of activities and services, including:
- Free mulch and compost provided by the City’s Parks Department
- Electronic waste drop‑off (items smaller than a breadbox)
- Free bicycle safety checks and basic maintenance
- A hybrid Cornwall Transit bus on-site, with an opportunity to try the bike rack
- A display of one of the City’s all‑electric pickup trucks
City departments participating include Environmental Services, Cornwall Transit, Parks & Landscaping, Human Services, and Cornwall Police Services. The Youth for Climate Action Working Group and the Environment and Climate Change Committee will also be present.

Art Station
Local artist Vanessa Delaveau will host a watercolour art station where attendees can learn to paint native wildlife.
What to Bring
Residents are encouraged to bring items that support reuse, recycling, and community giving:
- A bag, bin, or bucket for mulch and compost
- Small electronic waste
- Gently used eyeglasses
- Black garbage bags for donation
- Old clothing, shoes, and textiles
- Yarn donations
- A bicycle and helmet for safety checks
RRCA Tree Giveaway
The Raisin Region Conservation Authority (RRCA) will host its 27th Annual Tree Giveaway during Eco Day. In partnership with its member municipalities and South Nation Conservation, the RRCA has distributed nearly 65,000 free trees since 2000, contributing to more than 1.3 million trees planted across Cornwall and SDG. Free trees will be available on a first‑come, first‑served basis.
