Escape Manor returns to historic Cornwall Jail
May 16, 2018The Cornwall Jail confined thousands of inmates during its 168-year history. Few escaped. Now it’s your turn to break out – if you dare.
Well-known escape room company Escape Manor is returning to the Cornwall landmark for a second season of Escape the Cornwall Jail, an interactive experience that lives up to its name in a big way.
Visitors will find an escape experience that is as authentic as it gets. Inspired by various real occurrences at the jail, your gang of prisoners must find a way to escape and avoid the gallows while a colourful cast of real-life characters provides twists along the way.
The experience takes participants through the most iconic parts of the eerie facility, which was the scene of several executions during its storied past. The jail and its forbidding walls are virtually unchanged since it ceased operations in 2002.
“It gives you a window into what life would have been like incarcerated in a classic jail,” said Neil Schwartz, co-owner of Escape Manor. “It’s the perfect setting for an escape experience. There’s definitely a creep factor here.”
The first season of Escape the Cornwall Jail received great reviews, Mr. Schwartz said, and the team is excited to welcome even more groups through the doors this year. For those who have already experienced the escape, there are some new twists this year to make it worth a second visit.
“It’s a great team-building activity and you have to collaborate in order to succeed,” he added.
Escape rooms have become popular tourist attractions around the world and Cornwall is fortunate to have two of them. Just around the corner from the jail is Rush Hour Escapes at 52 Pitt Street (upstairs from Echo Trends). Rush Hour features two different escape rooms – Gallery Heist and CSI: Cornwall Murder – with groups of 2-8 working together to find clues and crack the codes to escape in time.
Rush Hour is open weekends as well as Thursday and Friday evenings. To book a visit, check out the Rush Hour Escapes website.
Escape the Cornwall Jail returns Victoria Day weekend and will continue throughout the summer on Saturdays and Sundays as well as holiday Mondays. It’s open to groups of up to 10, with the experience taking about an hour to complete. For more information and to book your visit, check out the Escape Manor website.
