Experience ‘Harmony’ exhibit at Cline House Gallery
August 7, 2018Experience a thought-provoking new exhibit titled ‘Harmony’ at the Cline House Gallery in Downtown Cornwall.
Artist J.P. Leclair’s latest collection of assemblage art is now on exhibit at the newly-established Cline House Gallery (204 Second Street East), and it’s garnering rave reviews. The show runs through September 15th and the gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm.
Mr. Leclair’s journey into the art world began in 1969 when he enrolled in the Visual and Creative Art course at St. Lawrence College in Cornwall. After several years as a graphic designer he discovered the language of ‘stuff’ and found his niche in assemblage/construction. He was completely overwhelmed by this technique of juxtaposing unlikely objects that speak their own language and nourish the soul through paradox, ambiguity and mystery.
This art form became the vehicle by which he could venture deeper into the realm of ideas. Today those ideas are conceived from a collection of strewn objects in his eclectic studio. These objects take on a life of their own as Mr. Leclair arranges and re-arranges them, allowing them to speak and letting them go. Each completed artwork conceals as much as it reveals.
Mr. Leclair’s work is always characterized by a certain intent. The intention is to have the viewer step back, pause, and reflect on the state of affairs as it pertains to human activity vis-a-vis this awe-inspiring gift of creation which has been entrusted to us.
Mr. Leclair’s work has been exhibited in several solo, group and juried exhibitions in Toronto, Montreal, eastern Ontario and New York State.
For more information about the show, please contact Emily MacLeod or Tracy-Lynn Chisholm at Cline House Gallery, 613-360-9496 or clinehousegallery@hotmail.com.
The ‘Harmony’ exhibit is one of the first for the Cline House Gallery, which recently opened its doors in a beautifully-restored 1850’s era home in Downtown Cornwall.
