Shakespeare in the Park

Shakespeare is taking over Lamoureux Park this weekend.

Montreal-based Repercussion Theatre is bringing its 30th season of Shakespeare in the Park to Cornwall with a contemporary, gender-bent take on a classic love story: Romeo & Juliet: Love is Love. The show will run on two nights, Saturday, July 7th and Sunday, July 8th, with a mobile stage set up in Lamoureux Park. Both shows start at 7 pm and is open to all – admission is by freewill donation.

“We have a cast of 10 dynamic performers, an eye-catching design and live music,” said Director Amanda Kellock. “This show is not to be missed.”

The scenic Lamoureux Park, with the St. Lawrence River as a backdrop, serves as the perfect venue for an event such as this.

“We’re really excited to have Repercussion Theatre back in Cornwall. They have performed here in past years and it has always been well-received,” said Lorne Taillon, Leisure Arts Coordinator. “It’s a fun night out for residents and visitors who are looking to discover what Cornwall has to offer.”

The shows will offer a contemporary, gender-bent take on the timeless love story. In this tragic tale of young love and old grudges, the audience enters a world calcified by hate. As two young people gallop full speed towards love, they are broken by – and ultimately break down – the walls erected by the previous generation.

The Cornwall shows are part of Repercussion Theatre’s 30th anniversary tour, which runs until August 8th and features 30 performances in parks throughout the Montreal area, Eastern Townships and eastern Ontario. The Cornwall shows are the first Ontario stops on the tour.
