May 12, 2018 — Mother’s Day is a day to celebrate all of the great women in our lives. For many local boaters, Mother’s Day is also a day to celebrate the start of a new season on the water.

Mother’s Day marks the opening of Marina 200, the hub of boating activity on the Cornwall waterfront. Operated by Leader Sports, Marina 200 is a first-class facility on the St. Lawrence River, just east of the Cornwall Civic Complex and Aquatic Centre.

For visiting boaters, the facility has all of the amenities they would expect from a marina, but the biggest attraction is its location – just steps from Lamoureux Park, the expansive Waterfront Trail and the dozens of unique restaurants and stores in Downtown Cornwall.

In addition to local boaters, the marina welcomes many Quebec boaters travelling west along the St. Lawrence.

“The US (Seaway) locks are not far from us so Cornwall is a good stop overnight before going through,” said Jack Ruest of Leader Sports.

Mr. Ruest notes that Marina 200 is a popular destination for visitors on land as well. Immediately east of the marina is Legion Park and Point Maligne, a popular spot for people to picnic and sightsee.

Marina 200 is open until early October with full-time night security and fuel pumps open daily from 8 am to 9 pm.
