The Saunders Hydro Dam Visitor Centre, one of Cornwall’s most popular indoor attractions, is now open for the summer tourism season.

Located at 2500B Second Street West, on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, Saunders Hydro Dam Visitor Centre showcases the rich history of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Power Project as well as the communities and people affected. Whether you are a resident or a visitor, the centre features many exciting and informative interactive displays that make it a must-see tourist destination in the Cornwall area.

“We are excited to announce the opening of the Saunders Hydro Dam Visitor Centre for the 2024 tourism season,” says Greg Geisler, Plant Manager at the R.H. Saunders Generating Station. “The visitor centre is a space that enlightens guests about OPG’s operations and tells the story of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Power Project, an engineering marvel constructed in the 1950’s that still provides significant contributions to our economy today. It is also an inclusive, safe and educational space for tourists, community partners and the public to meet and enjoy.”

The visitor centre is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:30 am to 5 pm through to August 30th.

Admission is free and there are a variety of exhibits and interactive displays that are sure to interest children and families as well as those with an interest in the Seaway and Power Project and the Lost Villages.

The Saunders Hydro Dam Visitor Centre is part of Ontario Power Generation (OPG) which operates the nearby R.H. Saunders Generating Station. With a 1,045-megawatt capacity, it is the second largest hydroelectric station in Ontario.
