Public input sought for new SDG Tourism strategic plan
October 16, 2024SDG COUNTIES, Ontario – SDG Counties Tourism, with the support of Cornwall Tourism, is embarking on the creation of a new five-year tourism strategic plan. Aimed at fostering community well-being and enhancing the visitor economy, this plan will help shape the future of tourism in the region through a strategic and collaborative approach.
To ensure the community’s voice is central to this effort, the public is invited to attend one of three interactive community conversations. These sessions will provide residents, local business owners, and stakeholders the opportunity to share their ideas and insights on tourism development and its potential to drive economic growth while preserving the character of SDG Counties.
Cory Hagen, acting SDG Counties Tourism Coordinator, stressed the importance of these community discussions.
“These facilitated gatherings will be interactive and offer participants an opportunity to contribute ideas and suggestions to help inform the new five-year tourism strategy,” he said. “Sessions will highlight stories from local business owners and community champions who see the opportunities associated with strategic tourism development.”
SDG Counties Tourism has secured $25,000 in funding from the Tourism Development Fund to help defray costs of the strategic planning process.
The new strategic plan will focus on:
- Crafting a clear vision and mission statement for SDG Counties Tourism.
- Demonstrating the value of tourism to local communities and stakeholders.
- Identifying key opportunities and creating a detailed action plan to assist organizations in implementation.
