Shorty Jenkins Classic returns to Cornwall!
August 27, 2024Cornwall Ontario – The world’s top curlers are coming to Cornwall September 11th to the 15th for the 2024 AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic.
The popular event makes its highly anticipated return to the Cornwall Curling Centre from September 11th to the 15th and the field will once again feature the brightest lights in the curling world.
“We are very excited to announce the return of the Shorty,” said Kevin Baker of the Cornwall Curling Club. “The Shorty is loved by both curlers and fans alike.”
The bonspiel attracts world champion and Olympic athletes from around the world. Past participants have included talented Canadians such as Brad Gushue, Jennifer Jones, Brad Jacobs, Rachel Homan and Glenn Howard in addition to top athletes from the USA and Europe. Cornwall’s own Mat Camm is also a regular at the tournament as a member of Team Epping.
“We are very excited for the return of this premier event here in my hometown. The strength of the competitors that this event attracts is invaluable in our pursuit of ranking points, helping us to qualify for the Brier and the next Olympic Trials,” said Mat Camm, who serves as Vice on Team Epping. “We hope to see everyone in the stands supporting us as we try to win the Shorty Classic.”
The Shorty Jenkins Classic typically receives applications from dozens of teams wanting to play in the tournament. It is a highlight of the curling calendar.
The 2024 edition of the Shorty Jenkins Classic will mark the seventh year that the event has been held in Cornwall. The tournament is held at the Cornwall Curling Centre on the banks of the St. Lawrence River with the action starting on Wednesday, September 11th and the semi-finals and finals taking place on Sunday, September 15th.
“The Shorty is always one of the most popular sporting events of the year and it attracts fans from Ottawa, Montreal and beyond,” said Kevin Lajoie, Tourism Officer with the City of Cornwall. “Watching the games live and interacting with the players is an amazing experience. We’re really excited to have the Shorty back on the local events calendar.”

About the Shorty
The AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Curling Classic is one of the longest running professional curling events in Canada and features one of the highest combined purses. It was not held from 2020 to 2022 due to the pandemic. This will be the 25th year for the Shorty Jenkins Curling Classic and the seventh year being held in Cornwall. The bonspiel is named in honor of Shorty Jenkins, who was widely regarded as one of the most innovative and influential ice makers in the sport of curling.
About the Cornwall Curling Centre
One of Ontario’s oldest curling clubs enjoys a modern, state-of-the-art curling facility on the banks of the beautiful St. Lawrence River in Cornwall. The facility sports six sheets of ice that are in constant use by adults and kids alike. The Centre is located at 220 Water Street East, next to the Cornwall Aquatic Centre and Cornwall Civic Complex. Ample free parking is available.
