South Eastern Ontario Gears Up for Growth With New Cycle Tourism Workshop

Cornwall, ON — With cycle tourism surging into a $532‑million industry in Ontario in 2023, South Eastern Ontario is positioning itself at the forefront of this booming market. RTO 9 and Ontario By Bike have announced a free in‑person Cycle Tourism Destination Development Workshop, set to take place at the Benson Centre in Cornwall.

The two‑hour session aims to help local businesses, tourism operators, and community partners tap into the growing demand for cycling‑friendly destinations. Organizers say the workshop will highlight why welcoming cyclists isn’t just good hospitality, it’s a strategic economic opportunity for the region.

“Cornwall Tourism is excited to host RTO 9 and Ontario By Bike for this cycle workshop. Our community is fortunate to have what we believe is the premier section of the Waterfront Trail running right through our city along the St. Lawrence River. We invite local business owners and community members to join us and learn how we can collectively make Cornwall a top-tier, cycle-friendly destination,” said Shauna Baggs, Supervisor of Art, Culture and Tourism.

A Region on the Rise

Participants will receive an inside look at the RTO 9 Cycling Corridor project, part of the broader Cycle Ontario‑Québec Corridor initiative supported by Destination Canada. The project is expected to elevate South Eastern Ontario as a major cycling hub, connecting communities and enhancing the visitor experience across the province.

The workshop will also explore new developments in cycle tourism across the counties, offering insights into how local businesses can benefit from increased ridership and trail usage.

What Attendees Can Expect

The event promises a mix of learning and networking, including:

  • Insights into the cycle tourism market and its economic impact
  • Guidance on becoming a certified bicycle‑friendly business
  • Updates on regional and provincial cycling initiatives
  • Round‑table discussions with tourism professionals
  • Complimentary refreshments and open networking opportunities

With cycling continuing to grow as both a recreational activity and a travel motivator, now is the perfect time for local businesses to get involved.
