Suds & Sap Festival

Suds & Sap Festival

It’s being touted as the most Canadian beer festival in all of eastern Ontario. And that probably isn’t a stretch.

Beer connoisseurs will be able to usher in 2019 in true Canadian fashion at the 1st annual Suds & Sap Festival on January 11th and 12th at the Cornwall Civic Complex.

The two-day festival will feature upwards of 15 craft breweries serving their finest along with another Canadian treasure – maple syrup. Think maple cotton candy, maple-themed beer, taffy on snow and more.

For those non-beer enthusiasts, there will also be wineries and distilleries serving along with live local entertainers and gourmet food trucks to round out the festivities.

It’s a true Canadian experience, in the middle of a Canadian winter no less.

“It’s a cozy Canadian winter theme that we’re going for,” said Melanie Gravel-Casey, Program and Events Coordinator with Rachel’s Kids, the event organizers. “We think it’s going to be a great time. It’s a chance for family and friends to get together, to socialize, try new things and find a liking for a new product.”

The organizers believe the event could become a staple for residents and visitors looking for some fun during the long winter months.

“It’s something to keep people busy in the winter, something fun to do,” Mrs. Gravel-Casey added. “It’s definitely aimed at supporting the local community and local businesses, but we think it also has the potential to attract some tourists (to Cornwall).”

If all goes well, Mrs. Gravel-Casey said it could become an annual event on Cornwall’s calendar. A larger summer event could also be in the cards.

Best of all, the event is fully not-for-profit, with proceeds supporting Rachel’s Kids and the various programs it offers to help families in the community.

“All of the funds raised from this event will be put back into the community through the many programs we run at Rachel’s Kids like our Small Moments of Joy, Helping Hands and the House of Hope,” said Mrs. Gravel-Casey. “Not only will people be having a great time, they’ll also be raising money for deserving children and families in our community.”

The festival kicks off on Friday, January 11th from 6 pm to 11 pm and continues on Saturday, January 12th from 2 pm to 7 pm.
