Uncover the Past at Cornwall’s Community Museum

Cornwall, ON – The Cornwall Community Museum remains open for the summer months. The museum offers self-guided tours, guided tours, and group tours (by reservation) during their business hours, 9am to 4pm Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday, and 12pm to 7pm Thursday and Friday.

The Cornwall Community Museum also manages an elaborate archive of historic documents, books, and photographs available for research purposes. The in-house archive has a comprehensive library composed of over 1000 books, non-commercial access to the Standard-Freeholder photo negatives collection, professional lecture and presentation services (by reservation), and SDG Historical Society events.

The Cornwall Community Museum and Archives is operated by the Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry Historical Society. Representing one of the earliest settlements in the province of Ontario, they are devoted to preserving, protecting, and sharing all aspects of Cornwall and United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry’s history and heritage. They manage a vast collection of artifacts, many of which are on display at the Cornwall Community Museum, located within the historic Wood House in Lamoureux Park.

The exhibit spaces host a multitude of artifacts generally organized by theme, like the founding of Cornwall and SDG, local productions industry, law, commerce, textiles, community service, health care, and more.

Some of the permanent exhibits include the founding of Cornwall and SDG, Black history in Upper Canada, Indigenous history in Upper Canada, and the Cornwall Canal and St. Lawrence Seaway.
