Top places for sweet treats in Cornwall
July 29, 2019One of the best things about summer is ice cream! It is delicious, cold, comforting and colourful – especially on days when the heat is insidious and an ice cream cone is the perfect reprieve.
Ice cream is perfect whether you are alone, with friends, with a special someone, or with family. It’s the perfect summer treat!
As a public service to help keep you cool this summer, Cornwall Tourism has put together a list of some of Cornwall’s top locations to find a cool, sweet treat while visiting the Seaway City this summer.

Archie’s

Archie’s is a Cornwall staple, having been a part of the Cornwall landscape for over 50 years. They have hard ice cream options galore and they never disappoint. One of the best things about Archie’s is that when they give you a single scoop, they give you a giant single scoop – it is magnificent; it also tastes A+. They also have milkshakes, sundaes, and many other treats that will leave you wanting more.

Cowan’s Dairy Bar offers soft ice cream, hard ice cream, ice cream cakes, parfaits, fudge and more. They have various flavours and have a cute little air-conditioned sitting area, so that you do not have to stress about your ice cream melting. If you want to “treat yo self” head to this ice cream location and leave with some delicious homemade fudge as a dessert to your dessert.

DQ has it all: soft serve ice cream, blizzards, sundaes, parfaits, a banana split, and fast food. It’s a one-stop-spot that will inevitably fulfill your fast food dreams. You can enjoy a burger and fries and top it off with your favourite ice cream treat, or you can just eat ice cream and leave happy. Alternatively, if you are adventurous, you can dip your fries in your ice cream.

Menchie’s might not be ice cream – but it is just as cold: it’s frozen yogurt and it is so gooood. If you’ve never been, you essentially fill a cup with whatever frozen yogurt flavour interests you (you can also test taste them to find your faves) and then you load it up with candy, chocolate, sauces, crumbled cake or brownie pieces etc. and then sit back and take in the fruits of your artful frozen yogurt masterpiece.

The splash pad in Lamoureux Park is one of Cornwall’s most popular spots during the summer months. When it is hot, like it has been lately, why not visit and have one of their many frozen novelty treats? Walk down towards the water and sit along one of the city’s many benches along the waterfront trail, or enjoy over a picnic! It is in such a perfect location, I can almost hear kids screaming: “we all scream for ice cream!”

You can also stop by our seasonal Visitor Information Centre inside the Cornwall Community Museum in Lamoureux Park. The Museum is located at 160 Water Street West, just steps away from the children’s splashpad and play structure. Free parking is available immediately north of the Museum along Water Street.
The seasonal Visitor Information Centre is open seven days a week (8:30 am to 4:30 pm) through the summer months.
