Cornwall BMX Track hosting provincial qualifier
July 29, 2022Over 200 BMX racers from across the province will be in Cornwall this weekend for a BMX Ontario Provincial Qualifier event at the Cornwall BMX Track.
The one-day event on Sunday will feature racing action in a variety of classes. The racing gets underway at 12 pm.
“We’re expecting a great turnout for the event,” said Dan Drouin of the Cornwall BMX Club. “We will have participants from as young as 2 and under to 65 and over, and every age group in between.”
Beyond the competitors, Drouin is expecting a large turnout of spectators to attend as well. In addition to being free to attend, there’s another great reason to pay a visit to the track in Guindon Park. Local wrestling organization Seaway Valley Wrestling will be putting on a free show, Road Rash, as part of the day’s festivities. The wrestling show is expected to get underway around 1:30 pm.
Along with the great racing action and wrestling, there will also be concessions, a raffle, a 50-50 draw and more for spectators to enjoy.
Drouin said the event will draw competitors from as far afield as Niagara Falls, Toronto, Chatham and beyond. The local club partnered with the Nepean BMX club to host two qualifiers on the same weekend for the benefit of travelling families. Nepean will host their event on Saturday and most of the participating families will be staying in either Ottawa or Cornwall for the weekend races.
The Cornwall BMX Track hosted a couple of major events last year however it has been some time since a full-scale event has taken place.
“We’re really excited about the weekend and we’re looking forward to welcoming families to the BMX track and to Cornwall,” he added.
