Cornwall Waterfront Farmers’ Market moving to Lamoureux Park
August 6, 2021The Cornwall Waterfront Farmers’ Market continues to grow as it pursues its mission of connecting locals and visitors to farmers’ and food producers from Cornwall, SDG, Prescott-Russell, and Akwesasne.
Since the market’s inception in June, thousands of patrons have visited to pick up fresh vegetables, baked goods, and prepared foods.
The market has featured 12 to 20 vendors a week and it is now preparing to move from the Cornwall Civic Complex parking lot to Lamoureux Park this coming Sunday, August 8th. The move to the park will accommodate a few dozen new vendors including more prepared foods and farmers, along with not for profits and artisans.
On this day, the market will celebrate Green Explosion Day with a plethora of everything that grows up green! Yoga at the Market and Children’s arts and crafts activities will also be offered, courtesy of Cornerstone Organics. Next Sunday, there will be a corn roast featuring Lang Sweet Corn and Just Farms.
Organizers are planning to have some special each week from now until October 31st, when it wraps up for the season. The market runs from 10 am to 2 pm, rain or shine.
The last Sunday of August will be Tomato Tornado Day where visitors will find a large variety of tomatoes and market goers are invited to support the market by planning to come down for a pasta and sauce lunch fundraiser prepared with tomatoes, vegetables, and herbs from local growers and prepared by Kozroot Garlic and Herb Farm.
Also, mark your calendars for the Eastern Ontario Garlic Market being hosted on September 26th and Harvest Harmony on October 31st which will be the last day of the market.
The Cornwall Waterfront Farmers Market is an essential service to fill the gap for a local farmers’ market on Sundays over the 2021 season in the city and is an initiative of Kozroots Community Empowerment Projects in partnership with Eastern Ontario Agri-food Network. The market is vendor driven with a steering committee that guides the process and youth led with amazing young people who are Agrifood Apprentices working on farms and sharing their vision and leadership for local food and community.
