Spots are filling up fast for one of eastern Ontario’s most popular race events.

The St. Lawrence Marathon returns on Saturday, April 29th with the popular marathon – a certified Boston qualifier – as well as a half marathon, 10K and 5K run along the beautiful Riverside Trail.

The marathon starts at 7 am at Crysler Park Marina and winds its way west along the Riverside Trail with the finish line at Cornwall’s St. Lawrence College. The half marathon, 10K and 5K kick off at 9 am and 10 am and begin and end at the college.

The flat, scenic route together with the small-town charm of Cornwall and SDG Counties has made the St. Lawrence Marathon a favourite for runners from near and far.

“The runners love it because it’s a small event with a magnificent course,” said marathon director Sebastian Warner.

According to Warner, roughly 30 per cent of the marathon runners qualify for Boston at the race – a fact that adds even more weight to the event’s standing within the race community.

“They want a fast, flat course (and we offer that),” he added.

To encourage even greater participation this year, the event is offering a 40 per cent discount on the registration fee for those 18 and under and 70 to 79 while those aged 80-plus can run for free.

“We want to encourage all of those age groups to participate in the event,” Warner said. “We would really like to see more young people involved and participating.”

Join the team!

Putting on the St. Lawrence Marathon requires a significant volunteer effort and organizers are on the lookout for community members to join their volunteer crew.

“We can always use volunteers to support the race and it’s a really rewarding day for all of those involved,” Warner said.
